Position Overview:
The Licensed Customs Broker (Team Lead) is responsible for the accurate preparation and lodgement of import and export declarations in compliance with Australian Border Force (ABF) legislation. The role ensures correct tariff classification, valuation, origin determination, and duty calculation while maintaining high levels of accuracy, compliance, and client service
In addition to technical brokerage responsibilities, this position provides day-to-day leadership and guidance to a small team, ensuring workflow efficiency, compliance standards, and performance outcomes are consistently achieved
Operational & Technical Responsibilities:
Prepare and lodge import/export declarations via EDI in accordance with ABF requirements.
Apply accurate tariff classifications and determine customs value and origin.
Assess Free Trade Agreement (FTA) eligibility and applicable concessions.
Calculate duties, GST, and other applicable charges.
Ensure full compliance with the Customs Act and related regulations.
Liaise with ABF, freight forwarders, shipping lines, port authorities, and biosecurity agencies.
Maintain complete and audit-ready documentation records.
Provide technical advice to clients regarding customs requirements and documentation.
Manage workflow efficiently to meet service level agreements.
Leadership & Team Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day support and guidance to brokers, classifiers, and support staff.
Allocate and monitor workloads to ensure deadlines and service levels are met.
Conduct quality checks and review complex entries prior to lodgement where required.
Support training, mentoring, and development of team members.
Act as the first escalation point for operational or technical issues.
Promote compliance awareness and continuous improvement within the team.
Assist management with performance feedback and operational reporting
Salary and Perks:
The salary range reflects the Australian market for experienced Licensed Customs Brokers with team leadership responsibilities
Qualifications and Experience:
Licensed Customs Broker (Australia) – minimum 3–5 years licensed.
7–10 years’ experience in customs brokerage.
Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a team lead or supervisory capacity.
Strong knowledge of Australian Customs legislation and port operations.
Advanced proficiency in CargoWise One.
Working knowledge of BorderWise for tariff classification and research.
Experience using EDI systems.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Legal right to work in Australia.
Tertiary qualification in International Trade, Logistics, or Business.
Experience with Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
Exposure to specific industry sectors.
Knowledge of Australian quarantine and biosecurity regulations.
Advanced IT skills.
