The Client

Privately owned Australian freight and customs company with an operational team of 10 staff, as well as a warehouse team based in Botany, NSW. Strong tenured staff in a business with over 25 years in the industry and looking to take their position into the next level of clientele that they can bring on and service. With a fully capable business plan and team of high performers, the final piece of the puzzle is getting an experienced hands on strategic operations manager to lead them, so senior management can focus on new business.

The Role

Your days will consist of leading a team of 10 import/export operators, covering general to project cargo movements from all over the world. Strategic approach to getting the best out of the operators and instilling confidence and upskilling in all staff. The role also involves your insight into warehouse responsibilities by liaising with the warehouse manager on best practices to improve efficiencies, DIFOT and staff retention. This is an important role required to take the company to the next level and the type of clientele they can then approach.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee day to day operations and warehouse teams
• Manage and guide staff in the daily activities
• Develop and implement ongoing processes, plans and procedures
• Oversee special shipments in break bulk and project cargo
• Liaise and build relationships with all carriers, suppliers & customers
• Lead by example in hands on approach to import/export air/sea operations

Skills & Experience

• Freight Forwarding background
• Import/Export understanding
• Warehouse exposure
• Cargowise understanding
• Strategic and solutions focus with the ability to be hands on when required
• Strong commercial acumen
• Management exposure
