Pace Vic is proud to be the long-standing exclusive recruitment partner for a privately owned, market-leading trading company headquartered in Melbourne. This organisation is an experienced, globally expanding business that values professionalism and adaptability, and holds workplace culture and adherence to company values as its top priorities. Due to the sustained growth of the business, they are now on the lookout for an experienced Senior Sales and Trading Manager to join their team.
The successful candidate will enjoy autonomy in maintaining and growing market share in the commodity trade space, backed by an expert team and engaged management. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a business that truly values its people and drives constant excellence in a high-performance environment.
Above all, our client is looking for a genuine trader. Experience in their specific products is not essential, as the right person will be taught the rest. What matters is a proven ability to buy and sell.
The opportunity Our client is strengthening their trading team and is looking for an experienced trader who wants real ownership of a book. You’ll take on established customer relationships from day one, with a clear brief to grow them and win new business.
What matters most is that you’re a genuine trader. Dairy or meat experience is a bonus but not essential. Our client has hired successfully from grain, steel and other commodities, and will teach you the products.
What you’ll do - Trade both sides of the market: source product from producers and place it with manufacturers, distributors and importers, owning every trade from purchase to sale
- Hunt for new customers and suppliers, including cold approaches, and grow your book
- Negotiate and close deals, managing price, currency and counterparty risk
- Get the detail right: contracts, Incoterms and payment terms, working with logistics and export teams so every order lands as agreed
- Share offers, leads and market intelligence with colleagues, putting deals together as a team
- Use AI every day to find opportunities, research markets and move faster
- Meet customers and suppliers face to face, domestically and overseas
What you’ll bring - At least 3 years of physical trading experience in food, agri or another commodity (grain, oilseeds, seafood, meat, dairy, cotton, steel or similar)
- A proven record of both buying and selling, not just one side
- Evidence of winning new customers and suppliers, not only managing existing accounts
- A sound understanding of Incoterms, contracts and trade risk
- Strong commercial and numerical skills, with intermediate to advanced Excel
- Genuine, practical use of AI tools in your work
- A tertiary qualification in business, economics, agribusiness or similar is preferred
- Willingness to travel regularly, domestically and internationally
Who you are You’re self-driven and hungry. You chase the next opportunity and follow up without being reminded. You’re quick with numbers, resilient when a deal falls over, and you value long-term trust over a quick win. You keep your word when a deal turns against you, and you’re a team player who shares and celebrates the team’s wins.
What’s on offer - A competitive base salary plus uncapped commission linked to the profit you generate
- Direct access to, and coaching from, owners with decades of trading experience
- Real responsibility and autonomy from day one
- Modern tools, with AI built into how the business trades
- Hybrid working: three days in the office, two from home
- International travel and a global network of customers and suppliers
- An independent, entrepreneurial culture where good ideas are act
