Pace Vic is proud to be partnering with a highly regarded Australian food manufacturer seeking an experienced Transport & Inventory Planner to join their Melbourne operation.
This is a broad, hands-on role combining domestic transport planning, carrier management and inventory control. Working closely with production, warehousing, customer service and external transport providers, you'll play an important role in ensuring finished goods are accurately accounted for and customer deliveries are planned efficiently.
A key part of the position will be coordinating daily transport requirements and dealing directly with carriers. You'll source transport solutions, obtain and negotiate freight rates, manage changing requirements and build strong relationships with transport providers to achieve the right balance between service, capacity and cost.
Alongside transport, you'll maintain visibility and accuracy of inventory through regular reconciliations, stock reporting, CHEP management and investigation of discrepancies. About the role: - Planning and coordinating daily domestic transport requirements across local, regional and interstate deliveries.
- Booking transport and liaising directly with carriers to ensure customer delivery requirements are achieved.
- Obtaining freight quotes and confidently negotiating rates with transport providers.
- Managing carrier relationships and resolving transport delays, capacity constraints and service issues.
- Coordinating ad hoc freight requirements and responding quickly to changing operational priorities.
- Completing daily production and despatch reconciliations to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Investigating stock discrepancies and working with relevant teams to identify and resolve variances.
- Conducting and supporting cycle counts and inventory accuracy activities.
- Managing CHEP pallet movements and completing required CHEP reconciliations.
- Supporting daily and month-end inventory and pallet reporting requirements.
- Monitoring stock rotation, product dating and inventory movements.
- Coordinating customer returns and assisting with damaged or rejected stock.
- Processing and checking transport-related documentation and freight invoices.
- Maintaining accurate transport and inventory information across internal systems.
- Working closely with production, warehouse and customer service teams to ensure stock and transport requirements remain aligned.
- Identifying opportunities to improve transport efficiency, inventory accuracy and overall service performance.
About you: - Previous experience within transport planning, logistics coordination, inventory control or a similar supply chain position.
- Strong understanding of domestic road transport and distribution operations.
- Experience dealing directly with external carriers and transport providers.
- Confidence sourcing freight options, obtaining quotes and negotiating transport rates.
- Experience with inventory reconciliations, cycle counts and investigating stock discrepancies.
- Previous exposure to CHEP pallet management and reconciliation will be highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced operational environment.
- Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with drivers, carriers and internal stakeholders.
- Good systems capability with the ability to accurately maintain inventory and transport data.
- Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, manufacturing or high-volume distribution will be highly regarded.
