The role Based in Geebung, this role leads the transport and logistics function, overseeing outbound deliveries, fleet management and the despatch team. You will work closely with operations, sales, purchasing, production and customer service to ensure delivery schedules meet customer expectations while balancing cost, safety and efficiency. The role combines hands-on leadership with strategic oversight, including route optimisation, contractor management, budgeting and continuous improvement.
With full accountability for daily delivery execution, fleet and contractor management, safety, cost control, and service performance in a complex, high-risk manufacturing logistics operation responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Lead and develop the team (approx. 25) comprised of Drivers, Sub-contractors, Schedulers, Administration and Loading, setting clear expectations and performance standards;
- Manage daily dispatch of approximately 6-8 trucks per day across mixed fleet types with each run averaging 8-12 drops per truck;
- Oversee vehicle presentation, maintenance and compliance;
- Negotiate, manage and review subcontractor agreements and monitor performance, costs, maintenance and invoices;
- Oversee route planning and delivery schedules to optimise cost, service levels and customer outcomes;
- Drive a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with transport regulations and internal policies;
- Own logistics budgets, identify cost-saving opportunities and manage performance against targets;
- Partner with internal stakeholders to improve systems, processes and delivery performance.
Success Profile: You are a confident and practical logistics leader with a strong background in transport operations. You bring a collaborative leadership style, sound commercial judgment and a genuine focus on safety and service.
You will ideally demonstrate:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior transport or logistics management role;
- Proven experience managing fleets, drivers and subcontract transport providers;
- Strong knowledge of transport compliance, safety systems and route optimisation;
- Experience working with ERP systems and logistics reporting;
- Relevant supply chain or logistics qualifications (highly regarded but not essential);
- Exposure to manufacturing, construction or heavy/fragile product distribution environments (advantageous);
- Willingness to work 2:00am - 10:00am or 3:00am - 11:00am to operate in line with early-morning dispatch and delivery schedules;
